Microblading Overview + FAQ

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup using a disposable  handheld tool comprised of micro needles in the shape of a blade to deposit pigment into the epidermis. This mimics the appearance of crisp, fine and natural hair strokes. Perfect for those that having thinning and over tweezed brows or those looking for a more full and defined shape.

What is Microshading?

Thіѕ technique сrеаtеѕ a ѕоft powdered еffесt which resembles еуеbrоw реnсіl or powder. It іѕ very ѕіmіlаr tо microblading but instead of hаіrѕtrоkеs, a full and soft effect is сrеаtеd.

What kind of pigments do you use?

Everlasting Brows pigments are creamy and highly concentrated, ensuring your strokes remain crisp and durable.

  • Everlasting Brows pigments are produced in Germany
  • Contain only highest quality raw ingredients
  • Each pigment batch is tested for impurities – and heavy metals and is approved by InkCert; fulfilling all toxicological demand of CoE ResAp. Less impurities mean that skin will be more perceptive to pigment, which will create better healed results.
  • Formula ensures high pigment saturation, without any added water.
  • Non toxic, non corrosive, non irritating, non photo-toxic; meeting all health standards.
  • Sterilized according to medical device directive, and are Health Canada approved.

Does it hurt?

A topical aesthetic cream is used before and during your procedure. Some slight sensitivity/discomfort may still be felt, though this can vary from person to person depending on your pain threshold.

How many Microblading procedures will I need?

It is important to know microblading is a 2 step process.  A touch-up, or “brow perfecting” session is needed 4-6 weeks after your first treatment and is included in the initial cost. This appointment can take up to 2 hours. During the healing process the color will lighten approx 30-50%. During your touch-up, we will assess the color retention and correct any irregularities in the color, density or shape of the brows. This is where we perfect the shape and finish of your brows. Without this treatment your results will not be optimal. On occasion a third touch-up is necessary for clients where the pigment does not take as well to the skin.

Am I a good candidate for Microblading?

You are NOT a suitable candidate if you have or are:

  • Excessively oily skin
  • Pregnant or breast feeding
  • Diabetic (Doctor’s letter required)
  • Chemotherapy in the past 6 months
  • Viral infections and or/diseases
  • Epilepsy (Doctor’s letter required)
  • Pacemaker or major heart problems
  • Skin irritations near the treated areas (Psoriasis, rashes, sunburn, acne etc.)
  • Accutane in the past year
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Artificial heart valves, heart problems, blood problems (Doctor’s letter required)
  • Hypertrophic scars
  • Keloid scars
  • Autoimmune disease

What can I expect during my first procedure?

Microblading appointments begin with the specialist taking an overview of your facial structure, taking into account factors such as eye placement, and face shape . We will then discuss what you would like to achieve with your brows in terms of shape, thickness, size, colour, arch, and personal preference, as well as going over any photos you have for personal inspiration.  Next, we will map out the measurements for brow placement, and sketch the desired shape.  Once happy with the shape any symmetry, we will numb the area with a topical numbing cream for 20 mins. During this time, we go through pigment selection and choose the most appropriate shade.  This selection process is heavily dependant on natural brow hair color, skin color and undertone.   Finally, your brow specialist will begin the microblading procedure, checking periodically, to ensure balance and symmetry.

How long does it last?

Healing time is approximately 10 – 14 days depending on how well your skin heals, but that time period is only for the top layer of skin. Micro pigmentation takes 30 days to heal fully. After the procedure area has healed, a touch up appointment will be needed. The process is not considered complete without this brow perfecting session! This appointment will be booked 4 – 6 weeks after your initial appointment. At the touch up, we will be able to determine how your skin has healed, and if any adjustments have to be made. The specialist will be able to solidify the work done at the first appointment, as well as fill in any sparse areas, and place strokes between the already healed strokes during healing, it’s normal to experience moderate pigment loss (40% – 50% on average). This is why the touch up appointment is so critical. The process of microblading is only considered to be complete once your skin has healed following the touch up appointment.

What is the recovery process?

Your brows will appear darker and defined in the first days after your procedure. As scabs form they will continue to darken before gradually lightening during the healing process. Your brows will lighten approx 40-50% as the scabs begin to fall off. Do not rub or pick the area as it will pull any pigment out of your skin prematurely. Avoid heavily wetting your eyebrows for 14 days during the healing process. Avoid extreme heat, jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, sun beds, and excessive sweating for 14 days. The complete healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Detailed after care instructions and healing balm will be issued to you after your appointment.

Can you microblade over an existing tattoo or previous microblading?

To microblade over previous work it must be significantly faded. Please submit a picture of your brows to info@primstudio.ca, or call to book a complimentary consultation with our specialist.
